The Turning Point in my Career

October 2024 From Boardrooms to Celebrations: My Journey to Becoming a Celebrant

Life has a way of guiding us toward paths we never envisioned for ourselves, and for me, this couldn’t be truer. After spending 30 years navigating the corporate world as a senior leader in large blue-chip companies, I found herself at a crossroads. The demanding nature of her job, while rewarding, had taken its toll, and I yearned for something more fulfilling, something that resonated deeply with my soul.

The turning point came with a diagnosis that shook me to the core: cancer. Facing such a formidable adversary brought everything into sharp focus. The frenetic pace of corporate life seemed inconsequential compared to the preciousness of health and happiness. This life-altering experience ignited a profound shift in my outlook on life. I realised that life was too short to not pursue what truly brought me joy and fulfillment.

During my recovery, I had ample time to reflect on my passions and what I wanted my  future to look like. It was then that I stumbled upon the world of celebrancy. The idea of being a part of people’s most joyous moments, of crafting personalised ceremonies that celebrate love, life, and everything in between, spoke to my heart. This was the role that suited me perfectly—one that combined my organisational skills, my love for people, and my desire to make a positive impact.

With newfound clarity and determination, I made the bold decision to leave my corporate career behind and step into the world of celebrancy. It wasn’t just a career change; it was a transformation. I trained rigorously, immersing myself in the art of creating meaningful and memorable ceremonies. My background in leadership provided me with the skills to manage and execute events flawlessly, while my personal journey imbued me  with empathy and a deep understanding of life’s precious moments.

Becoming a celebrant brings me immense joy and satisfaction. Each ceremony I have conducted is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the beauty of love and connection. My journey from the boardrooms to celebrations is a poignant reminder that sometimes, life’s greatest challenges can lead us to our most fulfilling destinations.

I now look back on my journey with gratitude. Cancer, while a harrowing experience, was a catalyst for change—a change that led me to a role that brings me immense joy and allows me to touch the lives of others in the most meaningful way. My story is a beacon of hope for anyone standing at a crossroads, reminding us that it’s never too late to follow our hearts and embrace a path that truly makes us happy.
